Pre-season action is upon us at Priory Lane as Mark Beard’s new-look Eastbourne Borough team get their friendly schedule underway this weekend.

The first test for this exciting team comes in the shape of National League side Aldershot Town, led by former Sports boss Tommy Widdrington.

Seventy days on from the Sports concluding their 2022/23 National League South campaign with a 2-1 win over Concord Rangers, it has been a summer full of change on and off the pitch on the south coast.

Only a handful of last season’s squad remain, with Brad Barry taking on the club captain role and a whole lot of fresh faces Sports fans will get accustomed to as matches get underway.

And Borough fans have the opportunity to watch this new-look team in action for the first time in what promises to be a stern test against higher-league opposition.

Widdrington took over the Shots towards the back end of last season and helped them preserve their National League status. Now assisted by another familiar face in Hugo Langton, the duo that once stood in the home dugout return to the club where they spent five years between 2012 and 2017.

Aldershot got their pre-season underway with a comfortable win over Badshot Lea last weekend, but minutes in the tank will be what both teams will be looking for with the new league season kicking off in less than a month.
