The Sports will be hoping to make it two wins from two when they travel to Farnborough tomorrow (Saturday).

Mark Beard’s new-look Borough side kicked off the new National League South season with maximum points against Hampton & Richmond Borough last weekend. And now in their first game on the road they will be looking to build on that 1-0 win.

Billy Vigar got the decisive goal in the first half, and the Sports know they were guilty of missing chances to put the game to bed, especially in that opening 45 minutes.

Plenty to build on then for Beard’s young side, who look ahead to two games in three days with the trip to Aveley coming on Monday night.

Farnborough have recruited some high-profile signings over the summer as they look to improve on their mid-table finish to 2022/23.

Spencer Day’s side fell to a narrow opening day loss at Chelmsford City so will be looking to get off the mark against the Sports in front of their home crowd. Adam Mills got the only goal for the Clarets.

“It was a nothing game, terrible conditions, nothing in it with very little quality from either side,” said Day after the 1-0 loss in Essex.

“We probably deserved a draw. I’m disappointed for us that was our worst technical performance in the opposition’s half since this group have come together.

“As much as I think we dominated the ball in the second half, we didn’t make the keeper work enough. We didn’t do anywhere near enough in the final third.”

Adam Mekki, Ryan Upward, Joe Partington and former Sport Jaden Perez have all made the move to the Saunders Transport Community Stadium over the summer and the Yellows will be hopeful of another push towards the top seven.

It was a busy pre-season for Farnborough, with seven games – suffering just one defeat – as they played a mixture of teams from a higher and lower level.

This will be a different test to that the Sports faced last weekend, but after a full week of training and preparation Borough will travel to Hampshire looking to continue their winning start to the new season.
