Bexhill College Men’s 1st team in association with Chelsea Football Club Foundation and Eastbourne Borough Football Club rose to 5th in the league table following a 5-2 away win at Whitstable Town in the National Alliance Under 19 League.

On a bitterly cold afternoon, Eastbourne flew out of the traps scoring inside 3 minutes through Leo Groombridge however the lead did not last long with Whitstable profiting from a defensive mix up to level the scores.

Chances came and went before Sonny Walsh scored his 8th goal in 8 games, heading home from an Groombridge cross. 2 soon became 3 with Charlie Gibson calmly finishing an Ash Latuske through ball to give Eastbourne breathing space going into the half time break.

Whitstable started the 2nd period brightly applying pressure to the Eastbourne goal before halving the deficit to set up a tense final 20 minutes.

Latuske restored the two goal advantage when his cross sailed over the keepers head into the far corner. The game was finally killed off when Will Harley scored on his debut following up after Walsh’s goal bound effort had been parried.

Eastbourne manager Sean Noble expressed his delight when describing the performance. “5 wins in a row is an excellent achievement however the manner in which this has been achieved has been really pleasing,” he said.

“Some of the football which the team has played and the effort and intensity has brought about great enjoyment and joy within the group.”

Next up is Hollands and Blair at Priory Lane on 24/1/24 with a 1PM kick off.

Eastbourne team: Hobden, Howard, Rivers, Ketchell, Marchant, Latuske, Pollit, Corbin, Gibson, Groombridge, Walsh. Subs: Collings, Scullion, Harley.
