The Sports are excited to welcome the experienced Stuart Watkiss to Priory Lane as the new Mens First Team Assistant Manager.
The new Borough No. 2 is no stranger to Adam Murray, having given him his debut as a professional footballer at Mansfield Town.
And although many years have passed since then, and the 57-year-old returns to England after a spell as assistant manager in India with Jamshedpur under Head Coach Aidy Boothroyd.
As a player, Watkiss was a defender and made his name playing for the likes of Wolves, Crewe Alexandra, Walsall and Mansfield Town – where he retired from playing in 1999.
He then went on to turn his attentions to coaching, becoming manager of Mansfield in 2002.
Since 2006, Watkiss has held strong affiliations with Grimsby Town, where he has had three separate spells as assistant manager and caretaker.
He joins after a spell abroad which saw him manage both Bharat FC and Naxxar Lions, as well as assisting with the Bangladesh National Team.
“I’ve known Adam a long time and always kept tabs on his career,” said Watkiss.
“I’ve followed his success as a manager so when the opportunity to work with him came up I couldn’t turn it down.”
