Eastbourne Borough FC is delighted to announce the signing of Will Harley, a dynamic, 17-year-old striker, who has progressed through our partnership with Bexhill College and impressed in our U19 team. Will joins us after a stint with Hastings United, where he showcased his skills and gained valuable experience in men’s football.
Reflecting on his move, Will expressed his excitement: “Yeah, I’m buzzing to be fair. I’ve been playing for the academy this year for the under-19s, so coming up to the first team is a bit of a dream.” His familiarity with our set-up and his conversations with Alan Williams, CEO of Eastbourne Borough FC, cemented his decision to join the senior team. “Playing for the under-19s, I’ve seen the set-up and then after speaking to Alan, like the way the club’s going, I think it’s a great club to be at,” he said.
Will’s time at Hastings United has been instrumental in preparing him for this next step. “I think it’s just getting used to men’s football because before Hastings, I hadn’t really played many men’s games, only three before that, so just getting used to the physicality and the speed of the game,” he explained.
Transitioning to full-time football will be a significant change for Will, but one he eagerly anticipates. “It’s a big difference only training a few times a week to every day, so I’m excited”.
Will has clear goals for the upcoming season: “So for me, it’s really to score goals, just try to get into the first team confidently starting and then in terms of the team it’s to get promoted.”
Comparing his style of play to that of Romelu Lukaku, at 6ft 5, Will described himself as a “big striker who’s aggressive and physical.” He promised the supporters an exciting season, stating, “I’m quite a physical striker for my age. I like to get stuck in and throw myself about a bit. So, yeah, looking forward to seeing you on the pitch.”
As we welcome Will Harley to Eastbourne Borough FC, we are excited about the energy and talent he brings to the team and look forward to his contributions on and off the pitch.
