Eastbourne Borough FC is thrilled to announce the signing of our new goalkeeper, Finlay Western. Joining us with great excitement, Finlay is eager to start his journey with the team.
Reflecting on his move, Finlay shared his excitement: “It’s my first professional contract, and it’s nice to belong to such a well-established team. All I’ve heard about it is good things, so it’s great to be a part of it.” “My agent got in contact with the CEO, and from then on, all I’ve heard are good things about the club and how they can help develop my football and my career,” he added.
As a goalkeeper, staying focused and motivated during a game can be challenging, but Finlay has his methods. “I like to commentate throughout the game, talking to all the players in front of me and helping them stay switched on and alert. Since I’m the only one who can see the whole pitch, it keeps me engaged and aware of any situations that could arise.”
Reflecting on past challenges, Finlay mentioned, “Last year was quite challenging as I didn’t get the opportunity to prove myself. Hopefully, this season I can showcase my ability.”
Finlay is keen to improve specific aspects of his game this season. “Coming into a men’s environment, especially dealing with the physicality of the game, is different from academy football. Dealing with crosses is something I want to focus on, as in men’s games, you’re going to get challenged and face physical pressure,” he said.
When asked about his role model, “I think Ederson’s technique with the ball at his feet, his composure, and his ability to strike a ball 70 yards without taking a step is amazing,” he shared.
To the Eastbourne Borough supporters, Finlay expressed his eagerness for the season ahead: “I’m excited and can’t wait to get started. Let’s aim for promotion!”
As Finlay Western joins Eastbourne Borough FC, the club looks forward to seeing his talent and dedication in action.
Welcome, Finlay!
