Eastbourne Borough FC is thrilled to announce the signing of our new first-choice goalkeeper, Joe Wright. Joining us with immense enthusiasm, Joe brings both talent and a winning mentality to Priory Lane.

Reflecting on his move, Joe expressed his excitement: “When I saw the plans for the club and the way they’re looking forward, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.” Joe acknowledges the strength of the team and the competitive nature of the league, and he is keen to push for promotion this season.

Joe is impressed by the vision shared by the manager and the club’s owners, which aligns perfectly with his ambitions. “You can see what the gaffer and the owners are aiming for. We’re going to be pushing and competing, and at the end of the day, promotion is what we want,” he said.

Preparing mentally and physically for matches is crucial for a goalkeeper, and Joe understands the unique demands of his position. “As a keeper, some games will be physically demanding for the full 90 minutes, while in others, you might not be as active. The key is to stay mentally sharp and focused throughout the match. You might go 85 minutes without seeing the ball and then need to make a crucial save in the 90th minute,” he explained. Joe’s focus and concentration is vital, knowing that he needs to be ready at all times.

Joe’s career highlight so far includes winning the Under-21s Development League a couple of seasons ago with Millwall. “Winning a trophy was a great feeling, and I want to bring that winning mentality to Eastbourne Borough,” he recalled. Joe is determined to fight for three points in every game this season.

When asked about his goalkeeping inspirations Joe said “Prime Joe Hart, especially his game against Barcelona, was always impressive. He made big saves and was a difference-maker. I also admire Ederson for his range of passing and goalkeeping skills. If I could reach his level, I’d be very proud,” Joe said, aspiring to similar heights in his own career.

Joe is eager to meet the Eastbourne Borough supporters and start the season. “I can’t wait for the season to start. I’m looking forward to seeing the fans down at Priory Lane and having a great season ahead,” he stated enthusiastically.

As Joe Wright steps in as our new No.1, Eastbourne Borough FC looks forward to an exciting season with his talent and determination guarding our goal.

Welcome, Joe!
