Courtney Clarke is buzzing about his move to Eastbourne Borough FC. “First impressions, like wow, you know, very sunny here,” he said, clearly delighted with the warm welcome. But it wasn’t just the weather that caught his attention. “The set-up is amazing, it’s just run properly. The lads are great, everybody has welcomed me well, the staff are great.” It’s clear that Courtney already feels at home at Eastbourne.

When asked what drew him to the club, “The opportunity to play on such a big stage in front of the fans… it’s got a big following,” he explained. He’s excited about the club’s ambitions and is eager to contribute to its future success. “I’ve always heard about the good things this club is aiming to do,” he added, making it clear that Eastbourne Borough’s project was a big pull for him.

Transitioning from South Shields in the National League North, Courtney is ready for the new challenges that await him in the National League South. “We’re going to get more technical and talented players down here, as up North it’s very physical. So, I’m looking forward to it,” he said, showing his enthusiasm for testing himself in a different environment. He’s keen to adapt and bring his own strengths to the team.

Courtney’s personal goals for the season reflect his determination to make a real impact. “Get a lot of games in, get back to fit CJ, help the team out as much as I can,” he stated. He’s fully on board with the club’s ambitions “The club has big ambitions and hopefully we can try and push for promotion,” he reiterated.

When it comes to his playing style, Courtney finds inspiration in one of the game’s greats. “I would say Yaya Touré,” he shared, highlighting his admiration for the former Manchester City star. Courtney’s versatility and ability to adapt to different positions on the pitch are qualities he takes pride in, and he’s eager to showcase them at Eastbourne Borough.

Courtney is also motivated by the prospect of representing his country on the international stage. “I really believe that I can do it, and Eastbourne can give me the platform and the exposure to put me out there so that dream can come true,” he said with confidence. It’s clear that Courtney sees his time at Eastbourne Borough will help him to his potential.

As he prepares to don the Borough shirt, Courtney has a message for the fans. “I look forward to meeting you all, I’ve heard you’re fantastic. I’ve heard you really get behind the team, and I can’t wait to hear the amazing travelling support,” he said, eager to connect with the supporters.
