We are excited to announce the signing of Charlie Gibson, a talented midfielder who is another testament to our player pathway. As Charlie steps into this new chapter of his football career, he brings with a deep passion for the game.

For Charlie, joining Eastbourne Borough FC is more than just a career move “I think it’s an honour to be a part of this club,” he says, reflecting on his journey. Having grown up watching games at Priory Lane and admiring the big players who have donned the Borough shirt, signing his own contract feels like a dream come true.

“What the club have planned and what they’ve set out to do for this season is really exciting. I’ve really wanted to be a part of that,” he shares. His enthusiasm for the club’s vision is evident, and he’s eager to contribute to the team’s success.

Charlie’s journey to Eastbourne Borough has been shaped by his time at Eastbourne Town and Bexhill College, as well as his eight years at the Brighton Academy. “Bexhill is quite a strong college league, so you come up against a lot of good teams. Eastbourne Town, although I didn’t get to play as much as I would like to, is men’s football, so you get good minutes in. It really helps you physically and helps you become a better player,” he explains. These experiences have prepared him for the physicality and technical demands of men’s football.

The step up from the academy to men’s football is significant, and Charlie acknowledges the challenges ahead. “The physicality is just through the roof, and you’ve got to be sharp, technical. You’ve always got to have a picture before you’ve received the ball,” he notes. “Just being in with the lads every day, training, should be good,” he adds.

Charlie has set his sights high for the upcoming season. “I’d love to get on the score sheet. I’d love to get at least five goals this season. Really try and break into the starting XI and get some minutes off the bench,” he says. He also believes in the potential of the team, stating, “I really think we could push for play-offs. Looking at the team, looking at the players, I think we’ve got a good squad. I really think we can do it.”

While Charlie is inspired by top players he is eager to carve out his own identity on the pitch. “I would say Kevin De Bruyne, but I look up to him as a player,” he reflects. Fans can expect an exciting style of play from Charlie, as he describes: “Plenty of beating men, dribbling, getting the ball, playing it, making the box and scoring goals.”

As Charlie prepares, he’s ready to give his all for the club and its supporters. “I think it’s going to be a good season and I’m ready to put the shirt on,” he declares.

We can’t wait to see Charlie Gibson in action and look forward to the impact he will make on the pitch this season.

Welcome to the Borough, Charlie!
