Eastbourne Borough were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Slough Town at The ReachTV Stadium after a hard-fought and entertaining match. Despite Pavey’s well-taken equaliser just before half-time, the Sports were unable to find the decisive second goal, with both teams creating numerous chances throughout the contest.
The match began with a frenetic pace, with Borough creating their first major opportunity in the 10th minute. Quick’s cross from the right found Alexander, whose well-controlled turn and shot were saved by the Slough goalkeeper. However, it was Slough who struck first in the 15th minute, with Gilbert getting a toe to a low cross from the byline, just beating Quick to the ball and sending it into the bottom corner. The visitors continued to press, but Borough gradually gained a foothold, with Alexander and Pavey combining beautifully to carve out a big chance in the 42nd minute.
Borough’s persistence paid off in first-half stoppage time when Sesay broke down the right, delivering a perfect ball across the box for Pavey to smash into the roof of the net. The goal gave Borough momentum heading into the second half, with the hosts continuing to press for a winner. Ligendza came close in the 51st minute after a clever dummy fooled the Slough defence, but his shot was saved, and Slough’s Bayliss made a crucial goal-line clearance minutes later, denying Ligendza again after a delicate chip over the goalkeeper.
As the match entered its final stages, Slough pushed for a late winner, but Borough goalkeeper Wright was equal to the task, making a brilliant double save in the 86th minute to keep the score level. Diarra then came to Borough’s rescue with a goal-line clearance to deny Slough from a corner, ensuring the home side would walk away with a point.
Despite the draw, Borough can take positives from a strong performance, Sesay standing out as the Man of the Match. With the team showing resilience and determination, the Sports will look to build on this result in their next outing.
