Eastbourne Borough are delighted to announce that Matt Green has returned to the club as the new First Team Assistant Manager.

Green, 37, played his part in the Sports’ survival last season – with his only goal for the club being a vital match-winner against Weymouth in April at The ReachTV Stadium.

And after leaving the club in the summer, has now returned in a role off the pitch and he will be looking to have a positive impact once again.

Green replaces Stuart Watkiss, who left the East Sussex coast this week to return to his family.

Adam Murray said of his appointment: “As soon as I found out Stu was leaving there were a number of people that sprung to mind.

“It is such an important role to me and a number of things came into consideration – trust is a huge thing for me but also knowledge and a passion for the project here was vital.

“Greeny brings with him great knowledge and experience of what it takes to win. He will be priceless for our attacking players and will add a different element to our coaching processes.

“I’m over the moon he has agreed to join us again.”

As a centre forward, Green has plenty of football league experience with over 170 career goals to his name – his most prolific spell coming at Mansfield Town where he scored 56 goals in just 92 appearances.

It was with the Stags where Green came across boss Murray, with the Borough gaffer playing with and then managing Green during the forward’s two spells at the club.

The once England C international came through the ranks at Bristol City before he had spells with Newport County and Cardiff City. After making 75 appearances for Oxford United over two spells, he joined Mansfield – initially on loan – in 2011.

Green then made the move up to the Championship in 2013/14 with Birmingham City, but returned to Mansfield upon his release in 2015. He then had spells with Lincoln City, Salford City and Grimsby Town – who he left at the end of 2020/21.

Welcome back to The ReachTV Stadium, Greeny!
