Eastbourne Borough will be looking to carry momentum into their National League South fixture with Bath City after back-to-back cup victories.
Adam Murray’s side put a disappointing display at Chippenham Town behind them to beat Dorking Wanderers and then Lewes in the FA Trophy and Sussex Senior Cup respectively.
Whilst Borough’s reward for the 2-1 win at Dripping Pan will be found out later today (on BBC Sussex Radio), Boreham Wood will provide the opposition in the Third Round of the FA Trophy in a fortnight’s time.
Twenty different players featured over the two ties, with Murray able to have a look at majority of his squad ahead of a busy period in the lead up to Christmas.
After Saturday’s game, Borough travel to Maidstone United on Tuesday night before a trip to Chesham United next weekend.
Three games, with nine points up for grabs, and the Sports will be looking to push for maximum rewards in their bid to return to the top of the National League South standings.
The Opposition
Meanwhile, it’s all change at Bath City after Jerry Gill’s seven-year tenure came to an end last weekend.
Goalkeeper coach James Kendall is in interim charge, and he oversaw the Romans play out a thriller with Maidstone on Tuesday night – United scoring in stoppage time to make it 3-3.
Gill’s dismissal came in wake of Bath losing 3-2 at home to Chertsey Town in the FA Trophy last weekend. After the midweek draw, it’s now nine games without a win in all competitions, but the point on Tuesday did at least end a run of five straight defeats.
City made the play-offs last season, losing to Braintree Town in the play-off eliminator, but haven’t fared as well this time around – with sixteen points from their 17 league games thus far.
Head-to-Head
The Romans have good memories against the Sports, winning the last four meetings between the sides – including a 4-3 thriller here in August 2022.
An own goal, James Hammond and Chris Whelpdale goals saw Borough go into the break 3-1 up on the Sussex coast. However, the Romans turned the game on its head in the second half. Luke Spokes and Cody Cooke made it 3-3, before Kieran Parselle struck in the 90th minute to give the visitors all three points.
City prevailed 2-1 and then 1-0 against the Sports last term, with Borough’s last triumph coming in March 2022 with Charley Kendall and Jaden Perez on target in a 2-0 win.
