Eastbourne Borough will be hoping to get back on track and progress in the Isuzu FA Trophy this afternoon.
However, they will face a tough test against fellow National League South side Dorking Wanderers at Meadowbank.
It’s the second time that the Sports have faced fellow Step Two opposition in FA competitions this season – and they will be hoping to reach Round Three for the third time in the last five years.
The Opposition
Dorking come into the game just two points below the Sports in the National South standings – sitting in sixth spot with 18 games played.
Marc White’s side have only lost one league game at home – a 2-1 reverse against Weymouth in September.
And Wanderers go into the tie in mixed form – with four points from the last three games.
After a draw with Maidstone United in their last home game, Charlie Carter scored a hat-trick as they ran riot at Chelmsford City. Matt Briggs was also on target in a 4-0 win in Essex.
However, they couldn’t put back-to-back wins together as they fell to a 3-2 defeat away at Slough Town on Tuesday night.
Alfie Rutherford and George Francomb were on target, but it wasn’t enough for White’s side who ended with ten men following Joshua Brooking’s late dismissal.
Head-to-Head
If history is anything to go by, today’s game promises to be a cracker. In the seven previous meetings over all competitions, there have been 34 goals scored.
That includes four from the 2-2 draw between the two teams at The ReachTV Stadium back in August. Jayden Davis and Will Harley’s late goal cancelled out efforts from Briggs and Sebastian Bowerman as the points were shared.
Borough’s last trip to Meadowbank was also an eventful one back in October 2021. Chris Whelpdale, Charley Kendall and Greg Luer goals had put the Sports 3-1 up just after half-time, but the hosts came back – with Ed Harris’ late goal earning them a 4-3 win.
