Eastbourne Borough Under 18s preserved their unbeaten home record, but will feel they should have got all three points against Horsham YMCA at The ReachTV Stadium.
A combination of missed chances and great goalkeeping from Zac Robinson denied the young Sports, whilst YM also had opportunities themselves to steal the win in the Isthmian Youth League South.
YM had the first sight of goal when Ethan Brasier broke down the left hand side, but his low ball across the face of goal went just wide of the far post.
Borough then responded as Zack Tarrant found Tarik Kadric, who created room for a shot but his low effort from the edge of the area was straight at Zac Robinson.
Lucas Foden then burst down the left but saw his cross deflected just over his own net by a YM defender, Theo Coombs’ corner picked out Jack May but he could only head wide of the near post.
Borough then broke from a YM corner, as Tarrant held up a clearance and played the ball into the path of Ben Cordner who broke into space, but his drive across goal from just inside the area was turned around the post by Robinson.
Kadric then slipped through Foden down the left, but from a tight angle his shot was saved by the legs of Robinson at his near post.
Borough then almost went in front just before half time, working the ball well across from the left to Dash Callen-Dickens, who threaded it through to Tarrant but from a tight angle he was denied by Robinson.
The Sports started on the front foot after the break, with Suyang Jiang cutting inside the from the right and finding the feet of Kadric, whose effort on the turn from 20 yards out was tipped over by Robinson.
And they had a great chance to go in front as the game approached the hour mark. Jack May’s long ball put substitute Matthew Searle through, but after shrugging off a defender to go one on one with Robinson, had his effort saved.
It wasn’t all one way traffic though, as Tom King drove forwards down the right before cutting inside on the edge of the area, but he skewed his effort over the top.
The YM keeper was then off his line well to save at the feet of Searle, before Sam Sharma was a whisker away from picking out the top corner from a shot across from the left hand side.
Borough then had a big chance with 12 minutes to go. Searle did well to keep the ball alive and lift it in from the right and pick out Sharma in space, but he could only scuff his effort wide from six yards.
YM then forced Toby Whiteside into action late on, with Brasier twisting and turning inside the area before his effort was well saved by the Borough keeper despite a deflection.
With four minutes to go, there was another chance as a long ball set substitute Jimmy Holman through, but he was again thwarted by Robinson at his near post.
Two minutes into stoppage time YM had the ball in the net, but was disallowed for offside as both teams were made to settle for a point.
