Eastbourne Borough will be looking to return to winning ways when they travel to Somerset to face Weston-super-Mare in the National League South.
Like The Sports, Weston have enjoyed a strong start to the season, and sit three points better off than Adam Murray’s side in third place.
The Seagulls themselves will be hoping to bounce back after a run of four league wins without a win, so a close game is anticipated at Optima Stadium.
Last Time Out
A combination of missed chances and inspired goalkeeping saw Borough have to settle for just a point against Hornchurch at The ReachTV Stadium.
The Sports dominated throughout, restricting the visitors to barely a handful of opportunities, but it was the Urchins who went in front against the run of play after the half hour mark through Henry Hearn.
Alfie Pavey restored parity just five minutes later though with a close range finish after good work from Michael Klass.
And Borough continued to create chances after the break, but couldn’t convert as they were made to settle for one point when three were much deserved.
The Opposition
After losing their first two games of the season, Weston-super-Mare went on a 15-game unbeaten run – form which saw them top the National League South table in November.
Former Bromley and Dartford playmaker Luke Coulson has certainly made an impact since his arrival in Somerset in the summer, scoring ten goals already this campaign, including one in the Seagulls’ last win – a 4-3 win over Farnborough.
After back-to-back defeats at Torquay United and Worthing, they were held to a goalless draw at home by Hampton & Richmond before a stoppage time strike from Henry Hawkins saw Enfield Town earn a point at The Optima Stadium last weekend.
Head-to-Head
You have to go back to 2018 for when Weston last got the better of the Sports – doing the double back in 2017/18.
Borough have won six out of the thirteen visits to Optima Stadium in the past – the latest of those coming in 2018/19 when Dave Martin struck the only goal of the game for Danny Bloor’s side.
Last term, Sam Beard and Yaser Kasim goals saw Borough win 2-1 at The ReachTV Stadium, whilst the points were shared in the return game back in April – in dramatic style.
Borough knew three points from their trip on a Tuesday night would guarantee their National South status in their penultimate game of the season, and took the lead through Yahaya Bamba in the first half. And they looked set to hold onto that advantage but Jamie Soule struck in stoppage time to break Borough hearts – although Taunton Town’s defeat to Weston later that week saw the Sports stay up.
