After an unbeaten first half of the season at The ReachTV Stadium, The Sports will be looking to carry that form into the New Year.
St Albans City provide the first test at home in 2025, and Borough will be looking to extend their five-game unbeaten run in the National League South.
It’s also four clean sheets over those five games, including three in a row after the goalless draw on New Year’s Day at Worthing.
The only complaint from Adam Murray would be not turning draws into wins – particularly here at The ReachTV Stadium. And that was the case again here on Boxing Day as we were left frustrated against Salisbury.
The 0-0 draw in front of another four-figure gate (despite the weather!) was Borough’s sixth draw out of the eleven home games so far.
Other than the Sports, only top of the table Torquay United can boast an unbeaten home record so far in 2024/25 – and Murray will be looking to extend that run with three points this afternoon against a St. Albans City side looking to build momentum.
It hasn’t been the season St. Albans would have been hoping for. After finishing just five points off the play-off places last term, David Noble couldn’t get the Saints firing and parted company with the club in November.
The experienced Ian Culverhouse took charge with Saints languishing in the bottom four, but his first win on New Year’s Day over fellow strugglers Enfield Town have seen Saints move up to 21st – although they are still seven points behind nearest club Welling United.
Despite their precarious league table position, City have proven to be difficult to beat away from home.
Their last trip on the road in 2024 saw them earn a 1-1 draw away at Worthing, whilst they have also earned points away at Maidstone United, Slough Town and Torquay United so far this campaign.
Murray’s message to his side will be simple – put the ball in the back of the net. Borough have the lowest goals per game scored in the top half of the National South table, and the Sports will be looking for a change of fortune in front of goal as we head into back-to-back games here at The ReachTV Stadium.
