Eastbourne Borough will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to seven games in the National League South when they travel to Tonbridge Angels.

The Sports go into the game at Longmead Stadium without conceding in 555 minutes of football, and will hope that record will be extended as they face an Angels side on the cusp of the play-off places.

Jay Saunders’ side sit six points behind Borough with two games in hand, so another close game is anticipated in Kent.

Last Time Out

The deadlock remained intact at The ReachTV Stadium as Eastbourne Borough and Truro City cancelled each other out in the National League South.

A point apiece sees the Sports fall five points behind leaders Torquay United, although Adam Murray’s side did extend their impressive defensive record of late.

It’s now 555 minutes since Borough last conceded, including five clean sheets in a row, but it’s at the other end where the Sports know they need to improve – although chances were few and far between in this closely fought match.

The Opposition

Tonbridge go into tonight’s game on the back of earning a point at home to Chippenham last weekend.

Tom Mehew gave the visitors the lead against the run of play in the first half, with Tonbridge enjoying more possession and chances but were unable to convert.

The passage of play continued to be hugely in Tonbridge’s favour into the second half with Will Henry saving from Sean Shields before substitute Bailey Akehurst played in Scott Wagstaff to stand up a cross that was headed into the bottom corner by Crossley Lema, who arched his body backwards to make contact with the cross.

Tonbridge had their chances to win the game through Gianluca Botti, Charlie Pegrum and Jeremy Santos but the Chippenham defence stayed strong and created a couple of chances of their own on the break, one of which required a low save from Matt Rowley.

Head-to-Head

Borough’s record against Tonbridge isn’t the best – with Angels winning the last five meetings between the two teams. This includes a 2-0 win the last time the teams met in March at Longmead – with Ethan Sutcliffe and Mo Dabre on target after Freddie Carter was sent off in the first half for the Sports.

Borough’s last – and only – win at Tonbridge came in 2019, when Nick Wheeler and Elliott Romain goals saw them prevail in a Second Qualifying Round tie in the FA Cup.
