Eastbourne Borough will be looking to complete the league double over Tonbridge Angels for the first time when the two go head-to-head at The ReachTV Stadium.
You only have to go back less than three weeks since the pair faced off at Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium, and it proved to be quite eventful.
Garrett Kelly was sent off following an off-the-ball incident in the build up to the first corner of the contest inside two minutes.
And with a man advantage, the Sports went on to stamp their authority on the game – although they had to show patience before going ahead in the first half through Kai Innocent’s strike from ten yards out.
John Shamalo then scored his first goal for the Sports in the second half to double Borough’s lead – with Gianluca Botti sent off for a second yellow card with twenty minutes to go.
Angels, therefore, will be out for revenge following that reverse and will be looking for three points themselves to get their play-off hunt back on track.
Since the 2-0 defeat to Borough, Angels lost by the same scoreline on the road at Hampton & Richmond before bouncing back with a 3-1 win against Slough Town last weekend.
Then on Tuesday night, Jay Saunders’ side were made to settle for a point against St Albans City at Clarence Park.
Alfie Bendle – a familiar face to Borough fans – scored an own goal to put Angels in front, but a late Harrison Smith effort with three minutes to go denied them all three points.
The Sports’ task is simple – to keep their unbeaten run going. With Worthing in FA Trophy action today, three points puts the Sports back level at the top of the table.
Elsewhere, there’s a mouthwatering game at Gallagher Stadium where Maidstone United face Torquay United, whilst Dorking face Slough and Truro entertain Bath City.
Boreham Wood are also in FA Trophy action – away at Aldershot Town – so the pressure will be on for the Sports to maintain their push towards the top of the table.
But no match at this level is a walkover, and Angels have been Borough’s bogey side over the years.
