Eastbourne Borough bounced back to winning ways in style with a five-star showing at Enfield Town in the National League South.

George Alexander scored a hat-trick as Adam Murray’s men won 5-0 at Dave Bryant Stadium in front of a great travelling support.

Camron Gbadebo scored his first goal for the Sports, whilst Yahaya Bamba’s stoppage time penalty put the icing on the cake as Borough move up to second in the league standings.

George Alexander celebrates breaking the deadlock with Michael Klass

Murray made five changes to the line-up that started at Boreham Wood on the weekend, including starts for Moussa Diarra, Pierce Bird and Michael Klass – and it was the latter who provided the assist for the opening goal on seven minutes.

Klass was played into space down the right-hand side, and he fizzed a cross in to an unmarked Alexander, who stooped low to head home from inside six yards out.

However, the hosts – who came into the game winning their last four in a row – looked for a response, and nearly got it when Jack Bates’ corner picked out Henry Hawkins, but his downward header was blocked on the line before the Sports cleared.

Diarra then went close at the other end, meeting Bird’s hanging corner at the far post but heading just wide, before Alexander looked to link up with Klass once again but the home defence managed to neutralize the threat.

The Sports, though, did double their advantage on the half hour mark. Jason Adigun’s corner was met by Diarra, who’s header was blocked but the ball fell back to Gbadebo ten yards out, and his first time strike on the turn through a crowded area picked out the top corner.

Alexander was then denied by a last-ditch challenge inside the area, before Courtney Clarke forced Rhys Forster into a good save at his near post.

The Borough number 9 then broke the offside trap to run onto Adigun’s ball through, but under pressure from Hawkins he fired wide.

However, Alexander doubled his tally on the night in first half stoppage time. Clarke did well to get the ball in from the right hand side and pick out the forward, whose glancing header crept inside the far post beyond the scrambling Forster.

That third goal killed any real hope the hosts would have had to get back into the game, although they did look to get forwards after the break – but without testing Joe Wright.

Instead, Town defended Bird’s inviting free-kick well before Hawkins produced a good challenge to deny Adigun a sight of goal.

Forster was then off his line well to claim Clarke’s ball in searching for Diarra, before Clarke himself had half a chance but his strike was deflected off target.

Gbadebo then showed his defensive qualities when being alert to block Bayley Brown’s strike at the other end after a set-piece, before Alexander completed his hat-trick with four minutes to go.

Kai Innocent headed a long ball forwards and the forward raced onto it, breaking clear of Adam Thompson and one on one with Forster fired past the keeper to score his 15th goal of the campaign – and complete his second hat-trick for the Sports.

And there was still time for Borough to make it five. Ollie Kensdale was upended inside the area by Brown, and substitute Bamba fired home the resulting penalty to round off a fine evening for the Sports.
