Eastbourne Borough are back on the road tomorrow (Saturday) as they take on Aveley in their latest National League South fixture.

The Sports sit in fifth spot in the league standings following midweek results, which saw everyone but Worthing catch up on games played.

The Rebels lead the way at the top, and have one game in hand, after they came from behind to beat Aveley 2-1 on Monday night.

That result was followed by wins for Boreham Wood and Truro City on Tuesday night, whilst Torquay United were held by Salisbury and Maidstone United and Dorking Wanderers drew with each other.

Aveley, meanwhile, come into the game bottom of the table and will be hoping for three points in their battle against the drop.

The Manager

Danny Scopes was appointed manager of The Millers in November 2021. Under the former Concord Rangers boss, Aveley have risen up the non-league pyramid. After winning the Isthmian League North in his first season, the following season saw the club win the League Cup, defeating Potters Bar Town 3–0 in the final.

They went on to finish fourth in the league, and after beating Canvey Island in the play-off semi-finals, defeated Hornchurch 1–0 in the final to earn a second consecutive promotion in the National South.

Scopes also guided Concord Rangers to the Isuzu FA Trophy Final in 2021, where they lost to Harrogate Town at Wembley. Won the National League South Manager of the Year in 2023/24 after Aveley finished in the play-offs in their first ever season at this level.

Key Player

Charlee Hughes joined The Millers ahead of last season in July 2023 and went on to make 48 appearances upfront, scoring 14 times, including a hat-trick against former club Hemel Hempstead Town in a 4-3 victory, Charlee also assisted on four occasions too.

Prior to signing for Aveley, Charlee played for Brentwood Town and Maldon & Tiptree, where he was top goal scorer for both in back to back seasons with 20 in 33 for Brentwood and 30 in 45 games for The Jammers which earned him a move to National League side Wealdstone. Following a move to Hemel Hempstead, the forward moved to Aveley and helped The Millers to a seventh placed finish.
