Eastbourne Borough will be looking to bounce back after losing ground on teams around them last weekend.

The Sports had to settle for a goalless draw away at Bath City whilst others around them picked up wins as the title race in the National League South continued its unpredictable ways.

And after results in midweek went firmly against the Sports – Adam Murray’s side go into today’s contest in fourth spot, having played a game more than those around them.

The last action at The ReachTV Stadium of course saw the Sports edge past fellow promotion hopefuls Maidstone United with a battling performance earning them a 1-0 win.

George Alexander produced the decisive blow – with a clinical finish in a nervy game which produced little in terms of clear cut chances.

Alexander now has 19 league goals to his name – and only Boreham Wood’s Kwesi Appiah has scored more.

The result closed the gap on league leaders Dorking, but the Sports lost ground following the draw in Somerset last weekend.

Midweek wins for Torquay, Worthing and Truro – against Boreham Wood – made things even closer in the league table. The Sports start the day in fourth – yet could end up anywhere from joint top to sixth depending on results this afternoon.

Chippenham Town were beaten by Torquay on Tuesday night as their mini unbeaten run came to an end. The Gulls won 3-1 at Hardenhuish Park to leave Gary Horgan’s side in 12th spot – thirteen points off the top seven.

However, the Sports won’t be in for an easy game this afternoon. The Bluebird sit fifth in the away league table – with 30 points from their 18 trips on the road to date.

That run includes just two defeats out of the last nine – with only Farnborough and Hemel getting the better of the travelling Bluebirds.

With wins at Slough, Hampton, Weston and an emphatic 4-1 victory at Boreham Wood all since the turn of the year, the Sports can’t take anything for granted.

Borough, though, have never lost against Chippenham at home (W5, D1) but will have to be on it from the off to get all three points today.
