There hasn’t been a season like it – and it could still end in celebration for Eastbourne Borough.
The Sports sit just one point off Truro City and Torquay United in third spot, and are one of SIX teams who are still in with a shout of winning the National League South title come the full time whistle today.
Whilst Truro face a St Albans City side who need a win themselves in their bid to escape relegation, Torquay travel to Hemel Hempstead.
Should both teams fail to win, the Sports are next in line to lift the crown should they overcome a tricky test themselves.
Whilst Bank Holiday Monday’s 2-0 defeat against Truro put a realistic end to Weston-super-Mare’s play-off hopes, they can still make the top seven with a win and a 16-goal swing against Maidstone United should the Stones lose at Farnborough.
The Sports also go into the final day of the campaign defending a proud unbeaten record at The ReachTV Stadium which has lasted all season – and surpassed a calendar year at the end of March. However, they will feel that perhaps they’ve drawn one or two too many.
That was the case on Good Friday, where a sold out ReachTV Stadium saw Borough held by 10-man Worthing. It was an atmosphere not seen here for many a year, and hopefully one which we won’t have to wait too long to see again.
After having settled for a point, the Sports got back on track with a hard fought win away at Salisbury. Michael Klass produced a magical moment in the second half as Borough ground out a 1-0 win in Wiltshire.
With so much on the line, it can be easy to get distracted – but the Sports know they just need to focus on getting three points themselves before worrying about how others are faring.
Should either of the West Country sides win, Borough still need to secure victory to ensure a top three finish, and get a bye to the semi-finals of the play-offs. Plenty on the line, then, in what promises to be a dramatic day!
