Eastbourne Borough Academy, in partnership with Bexhill College, maintained their 100% winning start to the new National League Alliance season with a 2-0 win over Worthing.
Worthing started the stronger team, with Borough struggling to settle into the game in the difficult windy conditions, and the away side should of taken the lead when a ball across the box evaded everyone much to the relief of the home side.
After a tweak in shape Borough started to get a foothold in the game, and that proved to be the case after a good press from the home side saw them win the ball on the edge of the Worthing box, the ball fell to Tarrant who calmly picked out Latuske at the back post to slide in and tap home from a few yards out.
The second came quickly after, Mison won the ball back in his own half before driving towards goal playing a 1-2 with Tarrant before drilling the ball to the back post where Ginger tapped home again from close range. Borough should of made it three before half time but both Conor Keeley and Leo Ginger couldn’t convert from close range.
The second half started in similar fashion with Worthing seeing more of the ball and with Borough now against the wind they were finding it increasingly difficult to have a sustained period of possession. Worthing did have the ball in the back of the net after an initial shot was diverted in by a fellow Worthing player only for the flag to be raised for offside.
Nonetheless, they persisted to push for a way back into the game and Whiteside in the Borough goal was called into action on a couple of occasions but stood strong each time. Borough in the end saw out the remainder of the game comfortably to secure not only back to back wins to start the season but also back to back clean sheets.
Manager Shane Lovell said: “I’m really proud of the performance, 10/11 starters had played less than 48 hours before so to put in that shift in tough conditions against a team who are very ball dominant is really pleasing.
“To get 6 points out of 6 and back to back clean sheets is a strong foundation for the rest of the season”.
