Eastbourne Borough Women Under 19’s kicked off their league season in fantastic fashion defeating Brockenhurst College 9-0 in the AoC Sport Tier 1 Women’s Football league.
On a wet and windy afternoon in Hampshire with no fewer than 8 debutants in the squad, Eastbourne were quick out of the traps and found themselves 4-0 up inside 25 minutes with goals from Thea Laviniere, Jasmine Marsland, Hope Hyde and Abbie Tucker.
Eastbourne continued to create chances throughout a first half played against a strong wind with Marsland adding her second and Eastbourne’s fifth of the game leading into half time.
With changes made during the half time period Eastbourne started the second half where they left off from the first with some neat passing and movement throughout the pitch leading to captain Lily Smith scoring the sixth goal.
Further goals were added by Lola Dulake and Tilda Littau playing her first game in English football following her arrival from Germany at the start of term before Marsland rounded the scoring off and secured her hat trick in the closing stages.
Full credit must be given to opponents Brockenhurst who did not stop trying all game and played some very good football themselves with their goalkeeper pulling off a string of excellent saves throughout the game.
Manager Mark Goldring commented on the first game: “A great start to the season and I am pleased with the effort and application on show through the game, the team got the basics right and were able to do the simple parts of the game really well which led to a commanding performance.”
