Eastbourne Borough Women boss Chris Day praised his side’s second half performance as they continued their debut Adobe Women’s FA Cup campaign on Sunday.
Substitute Molly Hill scored twice, after Beth Creese had scored her first senior goal to break the deadlock early in the second half. Charlotte Gurr was also on target in a 4-1 win over Tooting Bec at The ReachTV Stadium.
The win means Borough will now travel to fellow Step Six side Farnham Town in the Third Qualifying Round on October 5th.
Day said after the game: “We had a bit of a sticky first half, and we made four changes at half time, to sort out a few things we’d spotted. We knew we would score quite early in the second half after those changes.
“We just felt we weren’t getting enough in the wide areas. So with the changes we had Abbie Tucker attacking wide 1 v 1 on the right, which also allowed us to attack on the left a little bit more at the back post. And that was where our best goal came from.
“Bringing on Mollie and Becky up top caused Tooting a lot of problems, and stopped them from playing out from the back.
“We got spectacular goals from some spectacular moves, which is the way we like to play. We score a lot of goals like that, but we couldn’t quite get the flow in the first half. Tooting had made it hard for us, and then it means you get 21 players in only one half of the pitch, and it’s hard to find space.
“We achieved that in the second half in the transition, which got Tooting out of their own area, and then we could get in behind them – which is where the goals came from.
“How far can we go? Let’s see what happens. It’s the club’s first season in the competition and we plan to enjoy it as long as we can!”
