Eastbourne Borough couldn’t cause an upset as they bowed out of the Emirates FA Cup against Boreham Wood.

The Sports fared well for the opening 45 minutes of this Fourth Qualifying Round tie, but the National League outfit made their class tell during the second half at The ReachTV Stadium.

In their first home match since his passing, there was a minute’s silence prior to kick off for former Borough player Billy Vigar.

Once the action got underway, Boreham Wood – unbeaten in the National League since the opening day of the season – enjoyed plenty of the ball, but were met by a stern Eastbourne defence who restricted their higher league opponents in Chris Day’s first game as Interim Manager.

Freddie Carter was impressive in the home back line, and he did well to block Lewis Richardson’s low ball in before Matt Rush should have done better after getting on the end of a cross from Joe Newton.

The Sports looked to push forwards – but Jes Uchegbulam and Josh Anifowose saw their shots blocked. Zac Brunt had the best chance of the first half – but he fired well over from eight yards out for Wood.

However, the visitors went in front shortly after half time when Jeff King fired a low ball in and Rush was on hand to turn it home.

Borough looked for a response, with Laiith Fairnie and then Pemi Aderoju having headers blocked, but they fell further behind after the hour when Abdul Abdulmalik turned home a low cross.

And Wood completed their win as the clock hit 90 through substitute Junior Dixon.
