Man plans and God laughs.
What a rubbish time to launch a TV show, right?
When we started filming two and a half years ago, none of us imagined we’d be where we are today. Life is full of ups and downs, and sometimes even the best intentions don’t go to plan.
But here’s the truth: in football, just like in business, you hire people, they hire people, and when things don’t work out, everyone looks for someone to blame. I’m not in the blame business. Anything that hasn’t gone to plan is on me. Decisions made by past managers, good or bad are on me. I don’t make footballing decisions; I just write the cheques. And there have been many days and nights when I’ve asked myself: Why am I still doing this?
Then I watched this programme.
I see the joy in the good times, those rare, golden moments every football fan lives for. And let’s not forget that clubs with far bigger budgets and reputations still get it wrong too. Football isn’t instant. It’s a long game. A season is just part of this crazy journey, and this show captures that truth in all its chaos, colour, and challenges.
I believe Tommy will get it right. The current situation is far from perfect, but it’s where we are. And across these seven episodes, I hope you see what I see: a group of people who care more deeply about this club than they’re ever given credit for.
We feel the same frustration you do.
We see the missed chances.
We feel the impact of losing key players to injury.
We see the bright spots. We live the dark ones and we carry all of it.
Tomorrow at 5pm it’s live, something to watch on the way back from Dorking.
I hope you enjoy watching it. And maybe, just maybe, the armchair experts and modern-day Nostradamuses will finally see just how much goes into doing such a “terrible” job.
Welcome to the real story.
