Frustration has been a word Eastbourne Borough fans would have said a lot over the last seven days – but The Sports will be out to change that this evening.

Tommy Widdrington’s side go into tonight’s game with Chippenham on the back of two harsh defeats having been the better team against both Dagenham and Weston, but ultimately leaving both games empty handed.

The Sports will feel their performance deserved at least a point against Dagenham & Redbridge last Tuesday night, but it was the visitors who came from behind to snatch all three points at Connect Management Stadium.

Borough were the better side for majority of the 90 minutes, and deserved their half-time lead when Pemi Aderoju tucked home Josh Anifowose’s low cross.

But two goals from set-pieces proved to be the difference. Trent Rendall – once on loan at Borough from QPR – headed home a corner on the hour mark before Andy Carroll stooped low to direct his diving header into the far corner with eight minutes to go.

Then Saturday saw Weston complete a typical smash-and-grab, with Louis Britton’s 98th minute free-kick stealing all three points back to Somerset.

Second took on second from bottom, and you would struggle to work out which was which based on Borough’s first half performance – labelled the best so far by boss Widdrington after the game.

However, Weston bundled home from a free-kick to take the lead early in the second half. Despite that, Borough grew into the half and although Pemi Aderoju missed a penalty – his first miss of the season – Kai Corbett’s first Borough goal looked to earn his side a point with just three minutes to go.

But there was a sting in the tale, and a bitter pill to swallow for Borough, who go into tonight’s game knowing that three points are a must.

After a string of mid-table finishes, Chippenham Town come into the game sat at the foot of the National South standings with just seven points from 16 games thus far.

The Bluebirds were unlucky to miss out on a First Round appearance in the FA Cup – losing 4-3 away at Chelmsford City – and will be hoping to take that sort of performance into tonight’s action.
