Eastbourne Borough Women boss Chris Day praised his side’s patience after they saw off Burgess Hill Town to progress in the Combined Counties Cup.

Goals from Lola Dulake and Charlotte Gurr put the Sports 2-0 up at the break at Leylands Park.

And Borough had further chances to extend their lead before Nicole Baitup’s deflected effort added a third in the second half.

Day said after the game: “As with other teams recently we faced an opposition focused on sitting very deep, which takes all space and transition out of the game.

“For most of the first half it was 21 players in one half of the pitch, which was similar to the Bexhill game.”

The Borough boss handed starts to Phoebe Cram and Lily Ray as he looked to rotate the side and give players minutes ahead of their next league game with Sevenoaks Town on November 23rd.

He added: “Having said that it was a good chance to start players who haven’t played as much recently, and see if they can stake a claim to a starting spot.

“Although we scored 3, it should have been 9 or 10, and credit to the opposition for keeping the score down. I thought Beth Creese was outstanding, and showed real maturity in her performance.”

The draw for the Third Round of the Combined Counties Cup is yet to be made, with the likes of London Bees, Watford and Wycombe Wanderers also in the competition.
