Eastbourne Borough Under 18s bounced back to winning ways in the Isthmian Youth League South with an emphatic win against Chichester City at Connect Management Stadium.

Both teams looked to get forward in the opening exchanges – but it was the Sports who created the better opportunities.

Lucas Foden’s low cross picked out Michael Ivakhnik unmarked ten yards out, but he couldn’t get enough on his shot to really test Miller Campbell.

On 19 minutes Foden was the architect once more, this time his low ball in was helped on by Matt Searle into the path of Zack Tarrant, but his low drive went just wide of the near post.

However, Borough broke the deadlock just before the half hour mark. Tarrant worked the ball in from the left-hand side and it ran across to Foden at the far post, and his low effort back across goal found the bottom corner.

And the lead was doubled just three minutes later when Matt Searle did well to turn inside from the right and he had his shot parried away by Campbell, but the rebound fell to Ivakhnik who had his effort go in via a deflection.

The Sports pushed for more as half-time approached, with Ivakhnik unable to turn Foden’s cross goalwards before the winger himself ran onto a ball through from Mardy Ovenden, but saw his attempted lob tipped wide of the post by Campbell.

But a third goal did come just five minutes before the break – as Tarrant found Ivakhnik in space on the left and he powered a shot past Campbell and into the bottom corner from outside the area.

However, it wasn’t all one-way traffic and Chichester reduced the deficit with almost the last kick of the half – Josh Smith turning home a rebound after Linus Jordan saw his initial effort saved by Toby Whiteside.

Despite that, the Sports didn’t show any signs of letting up and restored their three-goal lead just six minutes into the second period.

Searle latched onto a ball over the top and held off Evan Ramsay before showing great composure to slot past the advancing goalkeeper.

Ovenden and Austin Pugh then linked up well on the edge of the area before the former found Tarrant, who was thwarted by Campbell as Borough continued to press forwards.

Chichester, though, almost got back into the game when Jordan threaded a ball through to Louis Lawrence, but Whiteside produced a solid save to turn his effort over the bar with twenty minutes to go.

Ollie Kennedy then perhaps should have done better when he headed Tarik Kadric’s corner over the bar, before Borough were given the chance to wrap the game up with five minutes to go.

Tarrant did well to break into the area from the left-hand side, before he was upended in the penalty area by Ross Muvuti and the referee pointed to the spot. Tarrant himself stepped up, and sent Campbell to wrong way to complete the scoring and seal all three points.
