Eastbourne Borough supporters will be hoping for more of what they saw a fortnight ago as The Sports return to Connect Management Stadium this afternoon.

Tommy Widdrington’s side bounced back from a horror show at Torquay United with a resounding 6-0 thrashing of Hampton & Richmond Borough.

Pemi Aderoju stole the headlines with four goals – with Mo Sagaf and Jayden Davis completing the scoring in a dominant display from the Sports.

It was Borough’s first home league win of the season – and they’ll be looking to make it back-to-back wins at Connect Management Stadium when they welcome big-spending Chelmsford City to the Sussex coast.

The Clarets will be looking to bounce back themselves after just missing out on a place in the Third Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Louis Britton’s brace saw fellow National League South side Weston-super-Mare win 2-0 in Essex and deny Angelo Harrop’s side from making history.

And after a much-changed side bowed out of the Essex Senior Cup in midweek, Chelmsford will be hoping a return to league action will bring a return to winning ways after an inconsistent start to the season.

They come into today’s game on the back of losing five in a row in all competitions, although one of those defeats includes a penalty shoot-out defeat to Hemel Hempstead in the FA Trophy.

That run was preceeded by a five game winning run in all competitions, which included a 4-1 win over Essex rivals Braintree Town in the First Round of the FA Cup.

There will also be a few familiar faces in the Clarets’ ranks this afternoon – with Dominic Odusanya and Jason Adigun expected to line up for Chelmsford today. They will be joined by Jes Uchegbulam, who left the Sports at the start of November.

Goals are promised this afternoon – there has yet to be a goalless draw between the two teams in the 27 previous meetings dating back to 2011. The Clarets have won four of the last six meetings between the two teams – although Borough prevailed when they last met back in January 2025.

David Sesay and Yahya Bamba were on target in a 2-1 win for Borough – who hope for another win today.
