Eastbourne Borough travel to Torquay United tomorrow with three big National League South points on the line.
The Sports go into the game three points ahead of the Gulls in fifth spot – though the Devon side have a game in hand.
Such is the close nature of the league table, the Sports will be hoping to win at Plainmoor for the first time ever to maintain their push for top spot.
Three points at home to Tonbridge Angels last weekend saw Borough continue their fine form of late – with Adam Murray’s side now unbeaten in eleven games going into the clash in the south west.
Freddie Carter headed the Sports into an early lead at The ReachTV Stadium, but they were pegged back inside ten minutes when Bailey Akehurst’s low drive found the bottom corner.
The Sports dominated throughout but struggled to break down the Angels’ defence, with the visitors going down to ten men with twenty minutes to go when Nazir Bakrin was shown a second yellow card.
And Borough made their numerical advantage count almost immediately. Yahaya Bamba’s goalward header looped in the air off Courtney Clarke, and George Alexaner was on hand to turn the ball home from close range.
After the midweek action, the Sports sit fifth in the table – with four teams locked on 55 points – whilst Dorking lead the way with 56 points, having played a game more than the Sports.
Torquay sit three points behind Murray’s men, and will be looking to bounce back after a sticky patch of late.
Paul Wootton’s side had led the way at the top, but a run of two draws and then back-to-back defeats have seen the Gulls fall down to sixth – three points behind Borough with a game in hand.
United’s unbeaten home record came to an end in their last home game against Hampton & Richmond, before Charlie Seaman’s strike gave Maidstone United a 1-0 win at Gallagher Stadium last weekend.
And after earning a point at Plainmoor in his first game in charge of Borough over 12 months ago, Murray will be hoping for a big win in Devon to maintain their great run of form.
