A local derby with a difference, as Eastbourne Borough face Worthing with more than just bragging rights at stake.

Just two points separate the Sussex rivals in the National League South table, with Worthing ahead of the Sports with three games to go.

However, that could all change this afternoon as Borough look to maintain their unbeaten record at The ReachTV Stadium which stands at over a calendar year.

Nothing could separate the two teams when they met at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium back on New Year’s Day, and another close game is anticipated in front of a sell-out crowd at The ReachTV Stadium.

Borough’s league attendance record – 3, 108 against AFC Wimbledon back in 2009 – looks to be smashed this afternoon, and Adam Murray’s side will be hoping they can create an atmosphere that will live long in the memory.

For the Sports, they have only suffered three defeats this calendar year, and bounced back from the latest of those at Dorking with consecutive league wins over Weymouth and St Albans City.

Worthing, meanwhile, were four points clear at the top with a game in hand as little as a month ago, but a run of three defeats in four games has seen them fall back into the chasing pack.

However, Chris Agutter’s side bounced back from defeat to Truro City a fortnight ago with a 4-1 triumph against Chippenham last time out.

Forwards Temi Babalola and Mo Faal both scored braces to see off the Bluebirds, who had equalised in the first half through Matt McClure.

Both sides will be fully focused on the task in hand, but come 5pm will also have one eye on the result in Cornwall, where Truro City – who lead the way on goal difference – face fourth place Torquay United in a blockbuster day of fixtures for the neutral.

With so much on the line, it promises to be a game not to be missed and a memorable afternoon for all.
