Eastbourne Borough suffered a setback as they were beaten 2-0 by Bath City in the Enterprise National League South.
Will Jenkins Davies gave the hosts the first half lead, which they doubled within 40 seconds of the restart through Brad Ash.
The Sports huffed and puffed, but for all their possession couldn’t really create a clear chance at Twerton Park.
It was Borough who started the better in Somerset. Freddie Carter’s long throw inside the opening two minutes was allowed to bounce, but Craig Eastmond couldn’t get a clean strike away and Harvey Wiles-Richards made a save to his left.
Mo Sagaf then whipped a high ball to the far post but Pemi Aderoju couldn’t get his header on target.
However, it was Bath who broke the deadlock on their first real venture into Borough territory.
A long ball forward found Alex Fisher, who forced Jamie Searle into a smart save but the rebound dropped to Jenkins Davies, and the midfielder fired home the loose ball.
The goal seemed to spur the hosts on, as they enjoyed more of the ball before Borough were forced into an early change – George Alexander being forced off on the half hour mark.
Searle then produced a fine stop to deny the hosts a second moments later – showing great reflexes to turn Ollie Tomlinson’s effort over the bar.
Borough looked to get themselves back on level terms, but failed to create anything clear-cut. Joey Phuthi’s fierce ball across was well held by the keeper, before Sagaf had an effort go wide and then a volley blocked by Luke Russe.
However, any plan Borough would have had for the second half would have counted for nothing as they conceded within 40 seconds of the restart.
A low ball across found Mitch Beardmore, who saw his scuffed effort deflect into the path of Ash inside ten yards, who fired past Searle.
The Sports had a great chance to halve the deficit on 53 minutes. Isaac Pitblado’s free-kick into the box eventually fell to Freddie Carter, but his effort was well saved by Wiles-Richards. The rebound dropped to Camron Gbadebo, but he couldn’t hit the target on the follow-up.
Jesurun Uchegbulam then burst past Joe Raynes down the left-hand side, but saw his strike fly just over the bar.
The winger then found space inside the area, and looked to set up Aderoju for a tap in – only for Danny Greenslade to track back and cut out his low ball across.
However, as time wore on the hosts sat deep, and The Sports couldn’t turn their large percentage of possession into chances to leave Twerton Park frustrated.
