Eastbourne Borough were made to settle for a point after a goalless draw with Salisbury at The ReachTV Stadium.

Clear cut chances came few and far between, although both teams did hit the woodwork in a game that lacked real quality in the final third.

The point leaves The Sports still searching for their first win in the Enterprise National League South after nine games.

After naming an unchanged starting line up, Borough were dealt a blow after just four minutes when skipper Craig Eastmond was forced off through injury – Mo Sagaf coming on to replace him.

Salisbury had the better of the play early on, and went within a whisker of going in front when Harry Tustin played a ball through to Matt Briggs, but his low drive across goal deflected off the outside of the post.

The Sports looked to get forwards, but it was the visitors who had the better sights of goal. Briggs dragged an effort wide of the far corner after good work from Josh Hedges, before George Penn had his strike come off the post from outside the area.

Borough then went close on the half hour mark. Josh Anifowose’s free-kick was deflected off the wall and dropped inside the area, but Pemi Aderoju could only poke the ball wide on the stretch.

Anifowose then broke down the right hand side and played the ball through to Aderoju, but Will Buse was off his line well to make a good save at the feet of the Borough forward.

Aderoju went close again before the break – but this time saw his header held by Buse after good work from Jes Uchegbulam on the left.

There was a cagey feel to the start of the second half – Hedges sending an effort which curled away from the far corner the closest either side came before the hour mark.

However, Borough had a good chance to go in front on 64 minutes. Isaac Pitblado whipped the ball in from the left and picked out Aderoju for a free header, but he nodded it just wide of the top corner.

George Alexander was introduced midway through the second period, and he almost made the desired impact. The substitute did well to win the ball when pressing high up the pitch, and he found Sagaf, who in turn played through Anifowose but with just the keeper to beat had his effort well saved by Buse.

With eleven minutes to go, Tayt Trusty drove the ball forwards from midfield and slid it through to Alexander, who on the stretch guided his effort past Buse, only for the ball to bounce back off the inside of the post and Buse recovered to gather.

The visitors then almost stole all three points in stoppage time, but a great recovery block from Dan Quick denied Hedges from close range as the points were shared.
