Tommy Widdrington’s second spell in charge gets underway as Eastbourne Borough make the trip to face Maidenhead United in the Enterprise National League South.

Form Guide

After a winless first four games of the new season, Maidenhead bounced back and go into today’s game having won their last six league games.

Under Alan Devonshire, the Magpies’ eight-year stay in the National League came to an end last season after a 22nd place finish.

The York Road outfit will therefore be hoping for a swift return to the top flight of non-league football, and they currently sit in fourth spot – five points off top of the table Hornchurch with a game in hand after ten games.

They have only played one league game in the last three weeks, however, due to their early Emirates FA Cup exit – with Liam Dulson’s goal midway through the first half proving decisive in a 1-0 win over Worthing.

Head-to-Head

Games between the two teams have been close over the years, but Maidenhead have the edge in the more recent meetings – winning the last five.

However, four of those five wins have been by just one goal – including the last time the teams met in the Fourth Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup back in 2022. Jake Hutchinson’s goal proved to be a consolation as the Sports lost 2-1 at York Road, with Will De Havilland and Emile Acquah on target for the hosts.

Eastbourne’s last win at York Road came back in 2014 – under Widdrington in his first spell in charge. James Stinson and Ian Simpemba goals were cancelled out by Richard Pacquette and Jon Constant, before Stacy Long’s late, late goal gave Borough a 3-2 win in Berkshire.
