Caine Bradbury’s goal deep in stoppage time denied Eastbourne Borough a first home league win of their Enterprise National League South campaign.

The Sports twice led at Connect Management Stadium after goals from Josh Anifowose and Kai Corbett.

But Chippenham Town twice fought back, with Harry Parsons and then a goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time from Bradbury to earn a point.

Tommy Widdrington made one change from the agonising defeat to Weston on Saturday, with Isaac Pitblado coming in for Harvey Lintott.

In a scrappy start under the lights, the visitors asked questions early on after forcing two early corners, but it was the Sports who showed the greater attacking intent.

Mo Sagaf teed up Arthur Grout, who had a shot blocked from the edge of the area before there was a lengthy pause following a clash of heads which left Camron Gbadebo needing to be bandaged up.

Midway through the first half, Gbadebo pumped a long ball forwards which Corbett latched onto. He worked his way in from the left, but from a tight angle couldn’t quite find the far top corner with his strike.

Will Henry in the visiting goal then did well to deny Tayt Trusty a shot on goal, before claiming the loose ball at the feet of Anifowose as Borough dominated possession but couldn’t quite make the final ball count.

The home crowd were growing in frustration as Canice Carroll produced a superb block to deny Anifowose from close range, before the Sports eventually took their chance in first half stoppage time.

Grout did well to intercept a cross-field ball which fell to Pemi Aderoju. The forward had his initial shot well saved by Henry, but Anifowose was first to the rebound to bundle the ball into the net.

However, the lead was short lived as Chippenham drew level with their first real effort on goal. Ryan Sandford was caught out by Tom Owen-Evans’ inswinging free-kick from the left, and he could only claw the ball out as far as Parsons who nodded in from close range.

The Borough keeper then made amends for his error when getting a toe on Anointed Chukwu’s effort to turn the ball around the post moments later, before Borough looked for a response.

And they were given the chance to restore their lead when Corbett’s free-kick from the edge of the area was handled by the wall, with referee Matthew Norton pointing to the spot.

Corbett himself stepped up, and fired down the middle to score his second Borough goal in as many matches.

And he was unlucky not to extend the hosts’ lead after the hour mark. Anifowose fired a ball across and find the playmaker, who’s first time effort clipped the top of the bar and went over.

Gbadebo’s earlier knock was then made worse following another clash of heads, forcing him off and Harvey Lintott coming on in his place.

But as time wore on, the visitors got a grip of the game and looked to press forwards – with only a great last-ditch challenge from Laiith Fairnie denying Worthing-loanee Chukwu a clear run on goal.

Borough almost wrapped up victory late on, but Corbett fired just wide after being set up by Grout, but just as there was on Saturday, there was a late, late sting in the tale.

After conceding a sloppy free-kick on the touchline, substitute Bradbury’s inswinging delivery avoided everyone to creep inside the far corner to deny Borough all three points.
