Eastbourne Borough Women progressed to the Third Round of the Combined Counties Cup with a comfortable victory at Burgess Hill Town.
The Sports got off to the perfect start at Medical Travel Compared Stadium, breaking the deadlock just six minutes in.
Abbie Tucker’s cross in from the right eventually ran to Lola Dulake on the left, and her shot on the turn from the edge of the area picked out the top corner.
Chris Day’s side continued to dominate possession, with Charlotte Gurr and then Nicole Baitup going close to doubling their lead inside the opening twenty minutes.
There was a scare from the hosts, however, but Soph Moule showed great reactions to turn a cross-come-shot from the left away from goal.
And Borough doubled their advantage after the half hour mark. Beckie Simmons showed great determination to get the ball in from the right and pick out Gurr in the centre, who saw their initial header come back off the bar before firing home the loose ball on the rebound.
The Sports continued to be on the front foot after the break. Baitup showed great control to bring down Kellie Larkin’s ball in but then shot just past the near post, before the visitors made it 3-0 on 56 minutes.
Tucker was again involved down the right hand side, as she pulled the ball across and the hosts failed to clear it, with the ball eventually dropping to Baitup and from twelve yards out she fired beyond the home goalkeeper.
It was almost four after the hour when substitute Megan Griffiths saw her effort from outside the area clip the top of the crossbar, before Izzy Payne fired just wide after good build up play from Larkin and Dulake.
Despite the scoreline, the Sports didn’t ease up with their attacking play and almost added to their lead late on. Dulake had a goalbound effort blocked from ten yards out, before Beth Creese drove forwards from the back but fired just wide.
Overall, a good win on the road for the Sports who now await news of their opponents in Round Three.
