Eastbourne Borough conclude 2025 with a short trip across the Kent/Sussex border to face Tonbridge Angels tonight.
The Sports will be looking to bounce back from Boxing Day’s defeat to Sussex rivals Worthing – where the 3-0 scoreline didn’t reflect the game at Connect Management Stadium.
Borough had chances before going a goal down with Jack Spong firing home shortly before the half-time break.
And Tommy Widdrington’s side enjoyed large spells of possession in the second half, but couldn’t break down a stern Worthing back line before two goals late on sealed the visitors’ victory.
That result, coupled with scores elsewhere, leaves Borough six points from safety as they prepare for their final game of the calendar year.
We travel to face a Tonbridge Angels side in mixed form, with two wins, three defeats and a draw in their last six games. They sit 17th in the Enterprise National League South standings – four points clear of the bottom four ahead of kick off.
Like Borough, they had to undergo a managerial change after parting company with Craig Nelson – who was appointed in the summer. Alan Dunne was appointed as his replacement in September, having been assistant manager at Bromley for the last four years – helping the Ravens move into the Football League.
Last time out, Dominic Samuel’s goal eleven minutes from time saw Ebbsfleet United beat the Angels on Boxing Day. Sean Shields limped off injured for Angels, before Samuel latched onto a loose ball on the right hand edge of the 18-yard box to clinically pick his spot.
In the last few years, it’s been Tonbridge who have come out on top in the head-to-head record, but last season saw Borough complete a league double over the Kent side.
At Yeomans Community Stadium, last season’s corresponding fixture had many talking points as the Sports won 2-0 against at Tonbridge side who finished with nine men. Garrett Kelly was sent off for an off-the-ball incident early on, before Luca Botti saw red in the second half. Kai Innocent and John Shamalo got the goals for the Sports.
